Building Groups in Community is one of the most powerful things you can do in Feathr. However, powerful tools can feel complicated. This Group Recipe Book is designed to help.
Here you'll find a collection of the most common Groups we build in Feathr, each broken down into an easy-to-follow "recipe." Every recipe walks through the exact steps to build that Group, starting from the moment you enter your Community.
What is a Group?
A Group in Feathr is a set of saved filters that queries your entire Community database. In other words, every Person record you've imported and any Person created by the Feathr Super Pixel. Groups are dynamic, so they update automatically as new records meet your filter criteria. You won't need to rebuild or refresh them manually.
Groups can be used across the platform, including for ad and email targeting, as Goals for your campaigns, as Exclusions for your campaigns, and other things. Keep in mind that Groups are connected wherever they're used, so if you edit a Group, those changes will apply everywhere that Group appears. You will see warnings in the app if editing your Group affects existing campaigns.
Navigate to the Group Builder
The universal first step for any recipe is to navigate to the Community section on the left side of your page, then Click +Add filter set:
Rather than building groups manually, you can try the Pixl Group Builder to intelligently set filters to automatically build the Groups you have in mind. Use plain language to describe the Group you want, and let Pixl do the rest. As with all AI powered features, be sure that you are reviewing its work.

Group Recipes
All People Group
Purpose
This recipe builds the broadest possible audience Group in your Feathr account: every person record Feathr has ever captured, regardless of how they got there. This includes people captured through the Super Pixel, imported contact lists, form submissions, integrations, and campaign activity.
Uses
As an inclusion group for your widest reaching first party audience targeted ad campaigns.
To view the number of total Reachable people in your audience.

Full Site Audience Group
Purpose
This recipe builds a Group made up of everyone who has visited your website since you placed the Super Pixel. This represents your full retargetable web audience, capturing every visitor tracked across your site.
Use Cases
This Group is a strong foundation for retargeting campaigns aimed at anyone who has engaged with your site, regardless of which specific pages they visited. It also works well as a base Group to layer additional filter sets onto when building more targeted audiences, such as visitors to a specific section of your site.

Import & Tag Group
Purpose
This recipe builds a Group based on a list you've uploaded, rather than on behavior tracked by the Super Pixel. Every time you import contact data into Feathr, that import is automatically saved as its own Group. You can also apply a Tag to the import, which is stamped permanently onto both the import batch and every individual person record included in it.
Use Cases
This approach is helpful when you want to target people based on who they are rather than what they've done on your site, such as a list of Board Members, event registrants from an external system, or donors pulled from a CRM export. Since Tags are searchable and filterable, you can also use them to build a broader Group that combines several related imports together, such as all records tagged "Board Members" regardless of which file they originally came from.

Form Submission Group
Purpose
This recipe builds a Group made up of anyone who filled out a Feathr form on your site, such as a webinar registration, a contact us form, or a newsletter signup.
Use Cases
This Group is useful any time you want to target or report on people based on a specific action they've taken through a form, rather than general site browsing behavior. It's especially helpful for following up with webinar registrants, nurturing newsletter signups, or isolating leads who came in through a contact us form.

Conversion Pixel Groups
Purpose
Many organizations want to build a Group around a high-value action with a dollar amount attached, such as a ticket purchase, a donation, a store checkout, or any completed transaction. Conversion Pixels are a snippet placed on a confirmation page that reports the transaction's dollar value directly, rather than requiring you to guess at value from a URL-based Group.
Use Cases
A group of people that have converted is a valuable selection of your most engaged audience members.
Steps
The steps below outline building a group around a single conversion pixel. However, adding additional filters, using OR logic, and selecting additional conversion pixels can compile a robust group or converted people.

CRM Donation Group
Purpose
This recipe builds a Group of donors based on giving data sourced from your CRM, rather than behavior tracked by the Super Pixel. This allows you to build donor-value audiences such as "people who donated more than $1,000 this year." This Group requires providing Feathr with information from your CRM. This can be either through regularly importing custom data manually or through a direct integration, such as with Raiser's Edge NXT.
Use Cases
This Group is especially useful for major gift cultivation, donor recognition campaigns, or targeting mid-level donors with an upgrade ask. It's also a helpful way to exclude high-value donors from a broad appeal so you can send them more tailored messaging separately.
Steps
Note: The steps and example below use a custom number field called Total Donation that is mapped to an external CRM.

Frequent Visitors Group
Purpose
This recipe builds a "Super Users" or high intent Group made up of the people engaging most with your site. This Group is based on Times Seen, which counts the number of times the Super Pixel has recorded a visit from that person.
Use Cases
This Group is especially useful for identifying your most engaged website visitors for a warm retargeting campaign, prioritizing outreach to people showing strong interest before an event or campaign deadline, or as a comparison audience to see how your most engaged visitors behave differently from your broader site traffic.
Steps
+Add Filter Set

Newsletter Sign-Ups, Form + Import Group
Purpose
This recipe builds a single Group that captures newsletter subscribers no matter how they signed up, whether through an on-site form or through a list imported from a previous email platform. This is a great example of using Add Filter Set together with the Any toggle to combine two different paths into one audience.
Use Cases
This Group is useful any time your newsletter subscribers come from more than one source and you want a single, unified audience to target or report on, rather than managing separate Groups for on-site signups and imported contacts. It's a strong foundation for newsletter-specific email campaigns, as well as for excluding existing subscribers from acquisition campaigns aimed at new sign ups.

Did Not Open Previous Email Group
Purpose
This recipe builds a Group of people who were sent a previous email but did not open it. This is a great example of combining the Include and Exclude toggles to isolate exactly the audience you want.
Use Cases
This Group is especially useful for re-engagement campaigns targeting people who missed a previous send, or for testing a new subject line or send time with an audience that didn't open the original email. It's also helpful for cleaning up your active email list by identifying consistently unengaged recipients.

Campaign Engaged but Not Yet Converted Group
Purpose
This recipe builds a Group of people who interacted with a previous campaign's collateral, such as viewing an ad or being targeted in an email campaign, while excluding anyone who has already converted.
Use Cases
This Group is especially useful for follow-up campaigns aimed at nudging engaged but unconverted prospects toward a registration or purchase. It's also a strong way to avoid wasting ad spend or email sends on people who have already completed the desired action.

Unsubscribed Contacts
Purpose
This recipe builds a Group of anyone marked as unsubscribed from receiving your Feathr email campaigns. This includes contacts who have previously opted out of your emails, as well as those who were included on an opt out import list.
Use Case
Feathr cannot send emails to unsubscribed people in any circumstance, so you do not have to actively exclude this group from your target audiences. This group is useful for keeping an eye on total numbers of unsubscribed people in order to gauge whether your email strategy is succeeding.

Clicked a Specific Link in an Email
Purpose
This recipe builds a Group of people who clicked on a specific link within one of your email campaigns.
Use Cases
This Group is especially useful for following up with people who showed interest in a particular offer, resource, or call to action within an email, rather than targeting everyone who opened the email broadly. It's also helpful for measuring engagement with a specific link when a single email contains multiple calls to action.

Confirmation Page with a Unique ID in the URL
Purpose
This recipe builds a Group of people who reached the confirmation page at the end of a registration flow, even when that page's URL contains a unique ID for each individual registrant.
Example URL: https://exampleevent.com/Conference2028/registrant/8675309/Confirmation/
"8675309" is the unique ID for that specific registrant, and this number will be different for every person who registers.
Use Cases
This Group is especially useful for tracking event registration completions, ticket purchases, or any confirmation flow where the platform generates a unique confirmation URL per person rather than a single shared confirmation page.
Steps
Note: The wildcard asterisks in the Value step.
Activity: URL Visited
Filter Operator: matches pattern
