Your Feathr forms may often rely on custom field data. It is simple to add and create custom fields using Forms. Read along in this article to learn how to use custom fields in your forms.
What are custom fields?
Custom fields are data fields in your Feathr database that are not from Feathr's default set of activities or attributes. Custom fields can be created manually in the database by navigating to Community > Custom fields. They can also be created via import, by labeling columns in an imported spreadsheet and mapping the fields during the import process. They can also be created within the Forms builder, for use with your embedded forms.
How to add existing custom fields in Forms
When creating your form, scroll down in the field selector on the left until you see the section labeled custom:
This will be a list of custom fields that have already been added to your account via one of the methods described above. To add one or more of these custom fields, simply drag them to the right, into the form draft. Note: not all Feathr accounts will have custom fields available to add to a form.
How to create custom fields in Forms
To create a new custom field without leaving the Forms editor, click the plus sign next to the search bar on the left menu of field options, as seen below:
This will bring up a custom field creator:
Add the name you'd like to give your field, select the data type (text, date, true/false, number, or list), and (optionally) enter your notes about the field. Note that only attribute fields (person fields) can be created from the Forms editor.
Once you click Create, the field will be added to your form.
