This article discusses how Feathr charges and invoices for media and how to add billing configurations and payment methods in the Feathr app. A billing configuration must be established in Feathr before you can run any Ad Campaigns. This tells Feathr how you want to be billed, while the Budget step in the Campaign determines how much you want each campaign to spend. Check out this article for more info on Feathr's finance details (like our W-9 and address details).
What You Pay For
When running campaigns in Feathr, you are paying to place programmatic ad media on the websites where your audiences are browsing. This media is sold by cost per mille (CPM), meaning cost per unit of 1,000 impressions. CPM price varies, but tends to average out to around $5 for every 1,000 ads that are shown.
Feathr uses billing configurations to know whom and what source to charge for campaign media spend. A billing configuration is a combination of billing contact and payment source. You can have multiple billing configurations within your Feathr account. Each Project needs a billing configuration connected to it.
How to Add a Billing Configuration
Read this article for instructions on setting up a new billing configuration in your Feathr account.
How Billing Configurations Work
A Billing Configuration tells Feathr how to bill you for media spend incurred by your campaigns. When adding a billing configuration in Feathr, you must establish a billing contact. This is the person who will receive invoices for any projects with active campaigns. A billing contact requires name, email, and (physical) billing address. You'll also have to provide a way to pay for your campaigns' media spend. There are two ways to do this:
Credit card or ACH
If your billing configuration has an associated payment method (credit card or ACH), that payment method will be charged monthly for media spend incurred during the previous month. To add a credit card or ACH, click on the pencil icon in your billing configuration, then "Add payment method." Then, select credit card or ACH, and fill in the required information.
Pre-paid media budget
If your billing configuration does not have an associated payment method, you must pre-pay for media spend by adding media budget to your project. You may want to do this if you intend to set a budget for all your Feathr campaigns at one time and pay for it once. This can also be a good option for customers who have surplus "use-it-or-lose-it" budget. That way you can pay up front one time and continue using that budget on Feathr campaigns throughout the year.
To add pre-paid media budget, scroll to the Funds section in your project's billing settings. Click Manage Funds, then Add Pre-Paid Funds, and fill in the required information.
Upon adding funds, the billing contact will receive an invoice for the requested funds. Once this invoice has been paid, the balance will be reflected in the app. Any budget you don't end up using for one Project can be transferred to a different Project later.
Projects
All campaigns in a Project will use the same billing configuration. You can create multiple billing configurations in Feathr, which can be helpful when different departments in your organization are working on separate projects and need to use separate payment methods.
You will set the Budget for each campaign when you build the Campaign. Feathr will recommend a budget based on the duration of the campaign and the size of the audience.
