Bounce Rates
Email campaigns with high bounce rates can cause serious issues for your marketing and Feathr usage. A "bounce" is any email that can't make it to the recipient's inbox. This could be because the email address is not longer valid or never existed in the first place. Any time a bounce is detected, the corresponding email address should be removed from any future campaign. Feathr does this automatically for every email marketing campaign type.
A bounce rate is the number of bounces received in a campaign divided by the number of total sends attempted. A bounce rate between 0.1% and 5% is considered healthy and anything over 5% is considered high.
Continuing to send high bounce rate emails can damage a sender's reputation and, over time, degrade deliverability resulting in less effective email marketing. But never fear! Feathr has a few pointers on how to reduce bounces in your email campaigns. Read on to learn more.
Keep your lists up to date
As people move between email address for jobs or personal use, addresses that were previously valid may not be in the future. We strongly recommend that you work from lists of active users or periodically run your email lists through a service that checks them for validity. One of the services we recommend is NeverBounce.
Feathr already removes hard bounces from the pool of recipients for an email campaign in Feathr. You can export this list of hard bounced people by creating and exporting a Group using the filter Activity Type is Hard Bounce:
Make sure to use your own lists
To send an email to a person with Feathr, you must first obtain consent to send that person emails. Feathr email campaigns ask you to agree to this each time. Normally this is covered by your organization's privacy policy or terms of service when a new person signs up and submits their email. Gathering consent first greatly reduces the chance of bouncing and spam reports. Do not use lists that have been purchased online. For more on consent management, read this article.
