When your organization exceeds its monthly email send limit, Feathr automatically charges your payment method on file for the additional emails sent. This automatic billing ensures your email campaigns can continue running without interruption, so you never have to worry about campaigns stopping mid-send.
How Overage Billing Works
Overage Rate Structure
Email overages are billed at a simple, transparent rate:
- $0.0002 per email (equivalent to 2 cents per 100 emails)
-
Charges are applied in $1 increments for every 5,000 emails over your limit
Billing Examples
Here's how overage charges are calculated:
- 1 to 5,000 emails over your limit = $1 charge
- 5,001 to 10,000 emails over = $2 charge
- 10,001 to 15,000 emails over = $3 charge
- Charges continue in $1 increments for each additional 5,000 emails
For example, if your monthly limit is 50,000 emails and you send 51,200 emails, you'll be charged $1 for the 1,200 email overage.
Important Billing Details
Monthly Limits
Your monthly email allocation operates on a "use-it-or-lose-it" basis. Any unused emails from your monthly limit do not carry over to the next billing period. Each month, your email count resets to your plan's full allocation.
Overage Charges
Overage charges apply only to the emails you actually send beyond your limit—you're never charged for emails you don't use. These charges also do not roll over between billing periods.
Invoice Documentation
Your invoice will clearly display overage details, showing:
- The exact number of emails sent over your limit
- The corresponding charge amount
- Example: "Email overage: 1,200 emails. Cost: $1"
Billing Timing
Automatic billing occurs immediately when overages are incurred. You'll receive an email notification when charges are applied to your payment method.
What Happens If Payment Fails
If your payment method is invalid or a charge fails to process, Feathr will prevent additional emails from being sent until the payment issue is resolved. This protects you from accumulating charges you cannot pay.
To resume email sending after a payment failure:
- Navigate to Account Settings in your Feathr dashboard
- Update your payment method with valid billing information
- Once updated, your email sending capabilities will be immediately restored
Monitoring Your Email Usage
Stay informed about your email usage through your Feathr dashboard, which displays:
- Total monthly email limit for your current plan
- Emails sent in the current billing period
- Emails remaining before reaching your limit
- Historical usage with campaign-by-campaign breakdowns for detailed analysis
- Decreasing Limits in the middle of the billing period will be retained at the original higher limit. Increasing limits will rise your limit during the same billing month so you can utilize your new limits immediately.
Usage Notifications
Feathr proactively sends usage alerts to help you manage your email allocation:
- 75% notification when you've used three-quarters of your monthly limit
- 90% notification as you approach your limit
- 100% notification when you've reached your monthly limit and overage billing begins
These notifications are sent to your account's primary email address and any additional billing contacts you've configured.
