- Publish a Retargeting Campaign
You'll find instructions for each step below. If you run into any issues during this setup, search Feathr's Help Desk or reach out to Feathr customer support at support@feathr.co.
1. Publish Your Provided Google Tag Manager Container Code
First, start capturing audience behavior by publishing the Feathr provided Google Tag Manager (GTM) code on your web pages. Once the code is published, your audience activity will be visible in the Community section of your Feathr account. This step is critical to all future functionality of Feathr, so be sure to start with these instructions.
To publish the GTM on your website:
- Copy the GTM code as sent to you by Feathr.
- Paste it in the <head> code of the header of your organization's website and save.
- If your website does not employ a universal header, paste the GTM code into the header of every page of your website.
This is a more in-depth article for publishing your GTM, including FAQs. Please read it for more information or send it to your webmaster or IT professional if you are not the one handling the GTM installation.
2. Add a Payment Method
Second, add a payment method. This will supply Feathr with a method to bill for media spend, so there’s nothing stopping you from running your first campaign.
- Once you've logged in to Feathr, use the left menu to navigate to Settings > Billing > Configurations.
- Select + Add billing configuration.
- Complete the form on that page.
View this article for a more detailed walkthrough of adding a billing configuration in Feathr.
3. Build Your First Group
Next, you will need to define an audience for your first campaign. Different campaign types define their audiences in different ways. For your first Retargeting Campaign, Feathr will ask you to select a Group for an audience. You can create Groups within Feathr based off of your audiences' activities and attributes.
The audience for your first retargeting campaign will be anyone who has visited your website since tracking was installed. This is known as a full site audience. To target this audience, you will first have to build it as a Group in Feathr.
To do this, navigate to the "People" section on the left side of the Feathr app, then click on the subsection "People." Click on "Add Filter Set" and then recreate the example shown below, replacing "YOUR_DOMAIN" with your actual website.
Click "Save as Group," and name the Group "Full Website Traffic." Groups are dynamic--new audience members will be added to this group as they perform the action defined by the filter set.
Read this article for more information on Groups.
4. Prepare Creatives
Every digital ad campaign requires creatives to display to your audience. Feathr accepts many different sizes of creatives and you can find the specifications listed here.
While there is a wide variety of creative sizes available to use on Feathr, for your first campaign we strongly recommend using the three most popular sizes, listed below:
- 300 x 250
- 728 x 90
- 160 x 600
You can choose to design creatives directly in Feathr using the integrated Banner Builder, or have the correctly sized .png or .jpg files ready to load into the campaign when prompted.
5. Create a Project
Next, create your first project. In Feathr, projects are like folders that contain and organize one or more campaigns promoting a common initiative. You should name your project after the marketing initiative you'll be running your first campaign for. Some common examples include "Donations," "Membership," "Giving Tuesday," or "Annual Conference."
To create a new project:
- Use the left side menu to navigate to Projects.
- Select the + New project button in the upper right side of the page.
- Give your project a name, choose the billing configuration you created earlier, and click Save.
Learn more about Projects here.
6. Publish a Retargeting Campaign
As mentioned above, a Retargeting campaign shows your ads to audience members that have performed activities on your websites or have an existing data record with your organization. Retargeting Campaigns are great at nurturing or activating your existing audience members. The audience for your first campaign will be the "Full Website Traffic" group you created earlier.
To begin your retargeting campaign:
- Use the left side menu to navigate to Projects.
- Click the tile of the project you created in the previous step.
- Select the + Create button in the upper right side of the page.
- Scroll down to the Retargeting tile and select it.
Next, follow the instructions in this article to build and launch your first campaign!
