Organizations using Feathr rely on effective audience targeting for campaign performance. Managing groups and contacts ensures your message reaches the right supporters at the right time. This article explains how to export groups and add contacts to existing groups, empowering you to grow and engage your nonprofit audience confidently.
Adding Contacts to Existing Groups
A group in Feathr is essentially a saved set of audience filters. To add a contact to a group, you need to either add a filter that will also include this new contact, or adjust the contact so it will be included with the existing filters.
Here are three ways to add contacts to an existing group.
- Adding a contact to an import group via tagging
When a list is imported into Feathr, our system automatically tags those records with a tag that shares with name of the import, and appended with a series of numbers. Example "import 10-8-25 56712345". Feathr creates a group with a single tag filter which includes records that have that system generated tag. If you wish to add a contact to the group after the fact, you can simply add that system tag to the new record. Note: System tags are hidden in the tag field unless you switch the toggle to hide system generated tags.- Go to your import group. (Select "view contacts" on your import options, or search the import name in your Groups)
- View the tag filter and tag that Feathr added to your imported records.
- Go to "Community" and find the record that you wish to add to the group.
- Go into the record and navigate to their "Profile" tab, scroll down to the tags section.
- Toggle the "Hide system generated tags" toggle to off, and then add the tag to the tags field.
- Click "Save" at the bottom right.
- Add a contact to a group via primary email filter
- Go to your import group. (Select "view contacts" on your import options, or search the import name in your Groups)
- Select "+ Add filter set"
- Create a filter for "Primary email is _____" and insert the email address of the contact you'd like to add to this group.
- Make sure that your group is filtering for "People matching any of the following filters" at the top.
- Click "Save" at the bottom right.
- Additional methods for adding contacts to custom built groups
- Since groups are just saved sets of filters, you can either make a contact be included based on your existing filters, or add a filter that will include the new contact. For example, if your group has a filter for "Newsletter is 'True'", and you wish to add a contact to this group, you can go into the contact and set their Newsletter field to True. (Custom fields will be located in the custom fields tab of the contact.)
Removing contacts from an existing group
To add a contact to a group, we need to either make them no longer fit the filter requirements, or add a filter that excludes them.
Note: Our system will automatically omit people that have hard bounced or unsubscribed from future email sends, you don't need to remove them from the lists.
Here are three options for removing contacts from a group.
